Poultry India Celebrates World Protein Day: Encouraging Indians to Prioritize Protein-Rich Diets with Chicken and Eggs

Hyderabad, February 27, 2025: Today, as Poultry India / Indian Poultry Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) celebrates World Protein Day, we're reminded of the critical role protein plays in our lives. Protein is the building block of our bodies, essential for growth, repair, and maintenance. Yet, despite its importance, protein deficiency remains a stark reality in India.

A staggering 73% of Indians suffer from protein deficiency, with 17% of the population struggling with underweight issues. The consequences are far-reaching, from impaired growth and development to weakened immune systems and increased risk of chronic diseases.

So, what's the solution? The answer lies in making protein a priority in our diets. The National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) recommends a daily protein intake of 0.8-1 g per kg of body weight. For physically active individuals, an additional 20-30 g of protein per day is recommended.

Fortunately, there are affordable and accessible protein sources available. Eggs, for instance, are an excellent source of protein, containing all essential amino acids. One medium egg provides 6 g of protein, making it an ideal addition to a balanced diet. Chicken, too, is a lean protein source rich in protein, iron, zinc, and B vitamins.

This World Protein Day, let's pledge to prioritize protein in our diets. Let's make informed choices, explore affordable options, and work together to unlock India's full potential.

Many Indians prioritize carbohydrates over protein, believing that a full stomach is synonymous with good health. However, this couldn't be further from the truth.
